Research Methods for English Studies by: Gabriele Griffin, Chapter 1: Research Methods for English Studies: An Introduction

This chapter was an introduction of different research methods and skills that will be explained throughout the book. The chapter started out by giving us alittle history about research methods. It explained that back in the 1980s, research was what you did, and what you can hope to find in books. As time went on, research methods and skills grew into that they are today.

While reading this chapter, I was interested in the fact that author gave us the distinction between research skills, methods, and methodologies. The chapter explained how research skills are techniques; methods are how you carry out the research; and methodologies are concerned with perspectives you bring to your work. I felt that this information about the skills and methods was important to learn because later on I can use this as reference.

As the chapter went on, I learned more about that is going to happen in future chapters. Again, I feel that this chapter was important to read because I was able to prepare myself for the rest of the book. I enjoyed reading this chapter and I look foward to reading more.
